Behind the Lens

Hi, I'm Matt Vegh. Based in New York, I am a landscape and nature photographer dedicated to capturing the quiet, monumental moments of the American wilderness.

My pursuit of the perfect frame often takes me far from the city. Whether it's navigating the sun-baked expanses of Death Valley, exploring the surreal rock formations of Joshua Tree, or hiking through the autumn foliage of the Adirondacks, I am drawn to environments that demand patience and respect.

Shooting primarily with a Nikon Z9 and professional-grade f/2.8 glass, my goal is to translate the immense scale and raw atmosphere of these locations into high-fidelity images. I want the final piece to transport you directly to that mountain peak or desert valley.

When I'm not out on the trails, I work as a lead software engineer. In fact, I custom-built the gallery you are currently browsing from the ground up using the latest tech stacks. To keep up with the physical demands of primitive hiking, I spend a lot of my downtime in the home gym lifting heavy and running sprints. Otherwise, you can usually find me mixing up a new batch of homemade hot sauce, or enjoying a great cup of coffee. I keep the brewing process simple, but sourcing unique, co-fermented beans from craft roasters across the country is an absolute game changer.
